Canon 18x50 - A Powerful Binocular With Image Stabilization
The Canon 18x50 IS is perfect for a lot of things. First, you need to determine if it fits into your needs.
If you or someone you know are looking for a pair of binoculars and just not sure what you want or need, then maybe this well help you. There are many different features in binoculars for you to consider before investing in a pair of binoculars.
The first thing I would suggest is to read some online reviews and see what other people are saying about the different type binoculars they are using. People who write in reviews will tell you the good and the bad experiences they have had, so it is very good information to go by.
Also, make a list of what you plan on using the binoculars for, such as:
Outdoor sporting events - stadium seating or ring side
Hunting
Bird-watching
Off-Shore Fishing
What will the distance be from the object you want to view
Climate - wet or dry environment
If you have an idea how far away from your objects you will be, this will help determine what magnification you will need. If you are looking at a binocular that is a 10x42 (as an example), the #10 is the amount of magnification you will have. This means that if you are viewing a bird that is around 100 yards away from you, it will appear to be about 10 yards away. If you are considering a 15x50, then your object would appear to be about 6 to 7 yards away. You can figure it out with whatever size binocular you are looking at.
The next item to look at is the second number. So based on the above example, the second number is 42 and 50. This is the diameter size of your lens, either 42mm (10x42) or 50mm (15x50). The larger diameter the lens, the more area you can see while viewing your object and the more light that can be admitted in your lenses. The more light, the clearer and brighter your viewing, it also helps your viewing in low light conditions.
Something else that is very important, the more powerful the binoculars are, such as the Canon 18x50 IS, the more shake you will have when viewing your object. Most people can not get a good focus with a high powered binocular unless they use a tripod. As we all know, tripods are not always convenient. If this is the case, then you definitely want to get binoculars with IS (Image Stabilization). With IS you can be in a moving boat or a vehicle traveling across rough roads and still be able to have a clear view of your object, you just press a the IS button and give it a couple seconds and your view will be as clear as if you were standing still.
Maybe you plan on using binoculars on a boat or going to the rain forest, you want to make sure you get a pair that is Water-Resistant or Water-Proof. You can even get them fogproof and shockproof.
If you have determined that you are looking for a pair of high powered binoculars with IM (Image Stabilization) and that are weather resistant, then the Canon 18x50 IS is perfect.
Also makes a great Christmas Gift!

Astronomy Binocular and Multi Purpose Binoculars?
I am looking to buy 2 pair of binoculars but that are so many models that I am really confused. Can anybody help me out and suggest brands and model.
1 - Astronomy Binoculars I have searching online for a good binoculars that will let me look at the skies without much hassle. I saw some giant binoculars at binoculars dot com website and they need a tripod since they are too big. They come in 10x50 and 20x80. Can anybody recommend a good model that isn“t too expensive. I saw some models going for about $150 dollars.
2 - Multipurpose binoculars, even though giant binoculars can be used for daytime view they are very portable that why I would like to get a second pair of binoculars that is portable and has good capabilities for observing the nature, animals, bird watching, and so forth. There are so many options thats why I am hoping you guys will help me out !
Thanks
10x50 binoculars are good for both astronomy and general purpose -- though if you are a birder they may not have sufficient close-focus for some targets. If you are going to carry them hiking you might prefer smaller lighter binoculars such as 8x42 or 7x35.
12x60 or 15x70 are good binoculars for astronomy and can be hand-held by some people (I do). For others they may be too heavy to hand hold for long. You will have to determine what your limits are.
