Canon XTi/400D with MInolta 360PX External Flash?
I am very happy with my XTi/400D. am trying to use an old non-digital flash (Minolta 360PX) on the camera.
Anybody have suggestions on how to set the camera and the flash?
The XTi manual (page 152 in the Canadian manual) says that it can synchronize non-Canon flash units at 1/200 or slower.
I set the camera to Tv mode at 1/200, but I don't know what to set the MInolta flash unit to. It's got several modes: TTL (doesn't work at all), M (works sort of) and 3 levels of Auto. PLUS it's got dials and scales for Film Speed, Distance, Flash Coverage, Apeture -- whew!
Anybody have any suggestion on what the settings should be on the camera and on the flash?
The camera doesn't work TTL with that flash (the little tin pins under the flash will not match with the connections for the camera) You can use the flash in M (manual) mode but yiou'll have to play with your settings to get a decent pic. The Auto modes are for when you are in Av priority. Set your Aperture to one of the colors on the chart (depentant upon ISO setting too). and leave Tv alone. flash should adjust to Av (make sure auto mode is set to same Av setting via color code and chart) and you should do better. It wont be perfect, because your using flashes auto sensor not the cameras sensor for correct flash exposure.
