Is the Nikon D5000 really being discontinued?

I have read a few things online saying that the Nikon D5000 will most likely be discontinued by Christmas Time. Is that true because i was looking into buying one for Christmas cause its good for someone new to DSLR like me. Can anyone like officially confirm this rumor?

Where did you read it?
I don't think so.

If there is Nikon model that is most to be discontinued that would the D3000 not the D5000.
D3000 is already really old and it already has an update the D3100.

D3100 is not an update for the D5000 simply because there are still features in the D5000 that is not present in the D3100.

D5000 has bracketing, more D-lighting buttons, etc...and I think in taking still images it is still better comapred to the D3100. Overall though, considering the HD video feature of the D3100, the D3100 is a little better camera than the D5000.
