Binoculars As Duty Gear
For most people, their duty gear is one and the same, most of the time. A guitarist will use his guitar and finger guards all his life while a blacksmith will use his hammer and anvil. With police, however, the duty gear itself spans a wide spectrum. Their duty gear items for riot control, night patrol, bomb disposal, and crime investigation vary. A pair of binoculars is however a common denominator duty gear, necessary for many of their activities.
The size and quality of a pair of duty gear binoculars can vary depending on whether it is likely to be used in low light conditions or in full day light conditions. For viewing things under low light conditions, the binoculars must have what is known as a larger exit pupil and so will be more expensive as well. Still, the one that is likely to be used by night patrol policemen must have a large exit pupil while in the case of binoculars that are likely to be used during daytime, more importance has to be given to the field of view.
Binoculars are a must duty gear for anyone going out into the water, whether they are police or military, or fishermen, or birdwatchers. A 7 X 50 pair of binoculars are considered best for use over waters. Here the number 50, or 50 mm, is the diameter of the front lens and that much size is sufficient to let in enough light to allow satisfactory viewing, notwithstanding the movement of the vessel that will shake the binoculars a bit.
While buying duty gear binoculars, whether for use on land or water, it is best to opt for those, which have lens coating. Lenses are coated to reduce glare and reflection and anti-reflective coatings will increase the clarity of the image as well. Many binoculars nowadays come with multilayer coatings. Various types of coatings improve the quality of the binoculars significantly but the price would also increase proportionately. However, where the binoculars form only a night duty gear, anti-reflective coating is less necessary.
Using comfort of binoculars is important for whatever purposes it will be used. Buying those with rubber-armed coating is one way of ensuring holding comfort. Some binoculars will have neck straps while others will have shoulder harnesses for the user to have it pinned on to the person to avoid losing it. It is important for all forms of duty gear to have some provision against easy misplacement and losing.
When the power of the binoculars is increased, the viewing field is likely to be reduced because the total amount of light collected will be less. A pair of binoculars as a bird watcher's duty gear will be best in a range with a power of 7 x 30 up to 8.5 x 50. Where much higher magnification is needed, for whatever purposes, handheld binoculars may not be sufficient, and only one that is fixed on a tripod will do the job. An alternative for this is using a pair of zoom binoculars, which have good magnification powers.

Which Sunpak tripod is better?
recently, i'm looking for an inexpensive tripod to practice the bluring and panning effects.
Sunpak is considered the best brand to me for now.
I want to know which of the following model is the best.
SUNPAK 8001 UT-B medium duty TRIPOD
SUNPAK 9002 DX medium duty TRIPOD
SUNPAK Platinum Plus 5800D Medium Duty Tripod
since sunpak's website does not have the description for all model, i have no idea which one is considered the best.
BTW, please do not recommend any other brand.
Thanks for your answer!
Buy the 8001 UT-B. It has more features, holds 6.6 pounds.
My only question is: "Is it tall enough for you?" It only opens to 60" so if you're over 60" tall you'll either be stooped over or extending the center column.
Extending the center column more than an inch or two is a NO-NO because it adds instability. Raise the center section all the way up and the slightest touch will cause camera shake. With a longer zoom mounted a gentle breeze will cause camera shake.
Good luck.
